I thought I'd share a playlist with you all. I found this really great online streaming site called SeeqPod. You can do a search over the internets and it finds all kinds of mp3's that people have stored on ftp sites.
You ever question the power of Facebook? I found out about a ministry that I'm already in love with called Abort73...through an ad on Facebook.
And I love this ministry.
Abort73 is a ministry that is fighting to protect the lives of unborn babies. They are not fighting with silly slogans, clinic bombings, or "chains of life". They are fighting with education. Their website is packed full of
information. A lot of it is stuff I just don't want to see. But some people have to see to believe that there is an actual life being taken.
I love how they operate. Since their weapon is information, much of their resources go toward their website. They are so sincere about their ministry of education, they have what they call a "flex price" for their merchandise. In other words, if you want, you can pay what it cost them to make the product. Or, you can pay more if you feel led to do so, to further the ministry of Abort73. Here's an example:
Their explanation of the flex price is this: " By allowing the buyer to set their own price, we've made our shirts even more affordable for those with little money to spare, while giving those who are willing and able to pay more the opportunity to invest a few more dollars into this crucial ministry."
Did I say I love this ministry?"
Watch this video and then go to their website and buy something. I'm buying the shirt I showed above.
We use digital signage all over the church to promote events, programs, sermon series, book store happenings, etc. How nice would it be show every now and then something without a time, date, name, information or location?
That's exactly what we've decided to do. Not that we are getting rid of the promotional info on the digital signage, but rather mixing in something just for artistic value. Something that reflects God and our faith in Him. Something that allows us creative types to use our gifts to glorify God.
These two images are the first to show up in the digital signage. I hope that it reflects love and adoration to God, reflects who we are as broken, sinful people, what Christ has done for us, and everything else about the glorious gospel.
For some reason, I'd choose old vintage-retro over modern or futuristic everytime. It doesn't matter if it's fashion, architecture, furniture, product design. I just like it better.
These designs, while modernly done, still keep the spirit of vintage in tact.
It's time. Sugar Creek has grown, and technology has grown. We are launching phase 1 of the new website next Monday. We gotta lot to do between now and then, but when we are done done, the site will rock. We're using Drupal and integrating cms, and a few bells and whistles. There will be a blog...in fact a lot of the ministry pages will be blog based. But, I'm excited about the general blog page. This will afford the staff to blog on a larger scale than just their ministry focus. Should be pretty cool.
Here's a mockup of the front page. (click image to see full-size)
C28 has a really cool site that is very similar to Threadless...but more faith-based stuff. I've submitted a couple of designs there just for fun and have gotten some good feedback. If I get enough votes, I get some cash and they will actually print my shirt and sell it. How cool would that be?
